Public Service Announcement – Locksmith Scams in Our Area
We want to take a moment to educate our community about something that’s becoming more common here in North Georgia.
Some of the companies you see advertising online are not real locksmith businesses. Many are call centers that subcontract random individuals to perform “locksmith” work. In a lot of cases, these individuals have:
• No business license
• No insurance
• Minimal training
This often leads to poor workmanship, inflated pricing, or even leaving customers stranded. When issues arise, these companies simply change their name and keep operating under a new one.
This has been a long-standing issue in larger metro areas, but now that people there are catching on, these companies are starting to move into rural communities like ours.
Recently, we even received a voicemail from one of these companies asking if we wanted to “partner” with them. We’ve also seen invoices circulating in the locksmith community that show the kind of practices these operations use.
The bottom line: Do your research before you need a locksmith.
Don’t rely on Google reviews alone—these companies often pay for fake or misleading reviews.
Here are a few things to look for when choosing a locksmith (or any service provider):
• Clearly marked service vehicles with logos and contact info
• Local presence (photos, landmarks, real job sites)
• Uniformed technicians with company branding
• Matching business cards and company details
• A real, verifiable local phone number and address
This applies to all trades—locksmiths, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, mechanics, and more.
